A Stamford-based program to assist first-time homebuyers has received a $10,000 grant from the Community Fund of Darien.

The grant went to the Housing Development Fund, a nonprofit bank that offers financial counseling and downpayment assistance, such as zero percent and low-interest loans, to first-time homebuyers with low and moderate incomes.

The bank also offers low-interest, flexible financing to developers through its Multi-Family Lending Program and assists municipalities, the private sector and nonprofits to facilitate development of affordable housing.

The Housing Development Fund serves southwestern Connecticut, New Haven County and parts of Litchfield County. For information, call 969-1830.
